MC Blacka’s journey started with his love of hip-hop music. His deep set roots in the genre have influenced his distinctive style and lyrical flow.
Blacka was introduced to drum and bass as a raver in 1993 as a regular attendee at many events. Naturally inspired by DnB and relentlessly practicing his skills, he quickly realised that his love of the music coupled with his flow would suit him perfectly. MC Blacka instinctively knew he could combine his style, lyrical content and maximum impact as an artist in the industry.
1995 saw Blacka’s career firmly launched at ‘New Lick’ alongside Brockie & Det. His burgeoning career quickly progressed through mix tapes and by actively promoting himself to the future generation performing at a series of under 18’s events. MC Blacka’s confidence quickly grew through various radios show appearances including Rinse FM, Pressure FM & Rude FM.
In 2005 MC Blacka guested for Kool FM and from here his roots were firmly imprinted in the industry. Progression was fast as ‘Renegade Hardware’ took Blacka under their wing as a resident. Main room appearances for ‘Breakin Science’, ‘Future Sounds’, ‘Jungle Fever’ & ‘Kool London’ catapulted him forward.
‘Who’s that?’ with Double T on Grid Recordings served an introduction to the international scene. European bookings quickly followed and a subsequent Asian tour lead to performances in Singapore, Russia & Japan. Festival appearances have included ‘Global Gathering’, ‘One Love’, ‘Sunbourne’ & ‘Glastonbury’.
2018 saw MC Blacka achieve acclaim with the award of ‘Best Breakthrough MC’ at the ‘We Love Jungle Awards’. Firmly established as a go to MC in the scene, 2019 sees him moving forward at a rate of knots with regular appearances at major events and new projects in the pipeline.
